Hope Performance Tennis holds maiden tournament for teens

The very first edition of the Hope Performance Tennis Tournament successfully ended at the tennis court of the Accra Sports stadium over the weekend with winners in different age categories.

The initiative, which is to train young tennis players under 16 years began on Wednesday with a tennis clinic and saw about 500 children from 11 clubs participating. The children, aged between 8 and 16 were taken through the basics of the game for 2 days before the competition started on Friday, September 7, 2018.

The event, which was organised by the Hope Tennis Club with the collaborative effort of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF), Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG) and partnered by Tenolf Sports Ghana, saw Stadium B, emerging winners of the U-12 category. Baboo Academy placed 2nd whiles St Francis Foundation occupied the 3rd spot.

For the U-14 category, Stadium B lost it to St Francis Foundation, while Baboo Academy placed 3rd at the finals which were played on Saturday, September 8, 2018.

It was cagey in the last category, U-16, where Flipper Tennis Club topped with an impressive performance. Stadium B and Korle-Bu placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Speaking to the media after the event, CEO of Hope Performance Tennis Club, Enoch Godi promised a regional qualification to come next year.

“This is the first edition of our program and we are hoping to organize same, in the various regions and crown it at the Accra Sports Stadium Go willingly from next year onwards. I am very grateful that GTF, TFG and Tenolf Sports Ghana came in to support to make it very successful.”

St Francis Foundation’s Isaac Akuaku was adjudged the Most Promising player of the 4-day event, while Francis Kwame Boadu of Baboo Academy won the Best Coach. The Best team for the tournament went to 37 AMTEC.

Winners were presented with medals, racquets, tennis shoes and apparels.

The success of the event cannot be overemphasized as the development of the younger generation has been boosted.
