Akosombo Hydro Spikes, a volley ball team in the Asuogyaman District, has presented a Volley ball gala trophy they won in the Eastern Region to Paul Asare Ansah, the former Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
The Hydro Spikes beat Donkorkrom three-one in the finals to lift the trophy, thus giving them the qualification to represent the Eastern Region in the National Unity Games to be held later in the country.
Emmanuel Insaidoo, was adjudged the Best Player.
In an interview with The Chronicle, Captain of Akosombo Hydro Spikes, Godwin Okore Gbedemah, was grateful to Paul Ansah for financially supporting the team from the start of the gala to its finish.
He expressed, on behalf of the team, appreciation to the former GPHA Director General for equipping them with training kits, as they prepare for the National Unity Games.
Paul Ansah was elated Akosombo Hydro Spikes made the Asuogyaman District proud, defying all odds to win the ultimate trophy.
With the crop of talents in Hydro Spikes in the country, he said the needed investment in the lesser-known sports could produce professionals for the country.
"Sports, in general is another form of employment," he mentioned while commending the Sports Ministry for "not neglecting the lesser-known sports."
Paul Ansah hence promised to support the Hydro Spikes financially in their future competitions.
