Volleyball Players eager to qualify for Commonwealth Games

Ghana’s Female Volleyball team, the Black Spikers are very much determined to qualify for all international competitions that they would be registered to play.

After qualifying for the final phase of the last qualifiers in Algeria, the team which has been training intensively regularly at the courts of the Accra Sports Stadium seem to be in pole position to make it to the next Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Coach Justice Adjasu who has kept an eagle eye on the team feels satisfied with their performance and believes Ghana should be among the teams to make it at the Algiers qualifiers.

Ghana’s squad leaves Accra for Algeria on Saturday February 23 and arrives on March 3, 2014.

12 players are to be picked from the strong team whose performances can be described as very good.

Paulina Gwalase, a member of the Ghana Volleyball team told yours truly that they have trained enough under the instructions of Justice Adjasu and chairman, Paul Atsu who are determined to make names for themselves just like the players.

Gwalase said Ghana is the team to watch and beat, because they have all that it takes to be winners and they are going all out to quality.

“Nothing can stop us. We are really anxious to travel and bring honours home. It is our desire and prayer that we go out there to Algeria and beat all our opponents in the all play all competition.

Some of the nations competing in the qualifiers are, Algeria, the host nation, Ghana, Nigeria, Egypt and Botswana. We are going to shock all of them” she said.

Volleyball is one of the popular sports disciplines played in schools and by social clubs.

Many lovers of the game feel if there is good financial backing, the game will develop even better.
