Kumasi, Aug. 24, GNA - Leaders of the workers union of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) have denied ever accusing their top management of maladministration and dubious deals or called for a probe into their activities.
The union leaders have therefore dissociated themselves from the publication attributed to a "spokesman for the workers" in an Accra weekly published on May 26 to June one issue and on August 18 to 24 issue.
The first news item was captioned "GHA Workers call for a probe" and "Rot at GHA: workers call for probe".
The spokesman was said to have on behalf of the entire workforce expressed appreciation to President Rawlings for ordering the Ashanti Regional Minister to institute a probe into the illegal sale of ABU Contractors road construction machine at Yawkwei in the Asante Akim District of Ashanti.
Mr Obeng-Kwakye said the so-called "spokesman" further called for the extension of the probe to cover GHA headquarters in Accra where the top management "is allegedly involved in dubious deals. The deals, said the weekly, were said to have resulted in poor administration which has led to low morale of workers.
"The Free Press newspaper is politely requested to produce the so-called 'spokesman' of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) in Kumasi, otherwise we shall not hesitate to register our protest with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and appeal to the Media Commission to seek an appropriate redress", he added.
