Operatives of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) have arrested a senior manager of a manufacturing company for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine out of Ghana.
The arrest has sparked widespread speculation on social media, with claims emerging that the Chief Executive Officer of Kivo, a popular Ghanaian packaged food brand, had been picked up in connection with the alleged drug trafficking operation.
However, available information indicates that the individual arrested is not the CEO of Kivo.
The clarification follows a post by broadcaster Saddick Adams (@SaddickAdams) on X (formerly Twitter), which stated that a manager of a “hugely popular Ghanaian packaged food brand” had been remanded in custody for allegedly attempting to traffic cocaine out of the country.
According to the post, which cited the Deputy Director of NACOC speaking on Angel TV, the suspect concealed substances believed to be cocaine in the company’s products and was apprehended at the airport before boarding an outbound flight.
“A manager of a ‘hugely popular Ghanaian packaged food brand’ has been remanded in custody for allegedly attempting to traffic cocaine out of Ghana,” the post read.
NACOC officials say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling and whether other individuals may be connected to the case.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information as the matter remains under investigation.
