After defeating its Nigerian rivals, the Flamingos, in the final on Sunday, the Black Maidens became the first-ever winners of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Girls' Cup.
The final, which took place at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, ended in a 2-2 draw between the two teams in full regulation.
After barely 14 minutes of play, Gertrude Amoafo broke the host's impasse.
In five minutes, Priscilla Mensah of the Black Maidens doubled the lead.
But before the break, the Nigerians made sure to cut this gap in half.
The game went directly to spot kicks after the Flamingos pulled off the crucial equalizer with just 12 minutes remaining.
Nevertheless, the Maidens converted all to end 5-4 after they missed their third kick.
Following a two-year FIFA ban, the Ghanaian girls have achieved a significant victory.
