Benjamin Arthur, the CEO of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), has announced that a nine-member committee reviewing the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP) will soon present its report to the National Tripartite Committee. The committee's review aims to assess the effectiveness of the SSPP, identify challenges, and address issues like linking performance to pay and market premiums .
Arthur emphasized the Commission's commitment to linking salaries to performance, ensuring fairness and equality. He also highlighted the Commission's achievements, including harmonizing public service salaries in 2014 and completing negotiations with 44 unions and institutions from January 2024 to present .
The review of the SSPP was initiated in response to labour unrest, particularly from workers in the education and health sectors, who raised concerns over pay disparities within the public sector. The Commission will continue to engage with unions and stakeholders to address concerns and maintain peaceful labour relations .
