Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, the Chairman of the NPP's National Council of Elders, has strongly denied claims that the party is biased against Northerners. He pointed to the rise of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the current flagbearer, as proof of the party's inclusivity.
According to Owusu-Agyeman, the NPP has always valued diversity and inclusivity, and the party's history and philosophy reflect this. He argued that the notion that the NPP is "anti-North" is based on misconceptions and misrepresentations.
Owusu-Agyeman also highlighted the significant contributions of Northern leaders like S.D. Dombo and C.K. Tedam to the party's development. He praised Dr. Bawumia's ability to unite people from different backgrounds, emphasizing that Ghana's diversity is its greatest strength.
While acknowledging that the party's early years were marked by voting dynamics that favored Southern leaders, Owusu-Agyeman noted that the NPP has evolved significantly, demonstrating its commitment to equity and fairness.
