The newly commissioned Hohoe Central Market is set to make history as the first market in the Volta Region to operate night trade. According to John-Peter Amewu, the Member of Parliament for Hohoe and Railway Development Minister, night trading will commence soon, with lights to be installed in all stores and sheds to enhance trading activities ¹.
The market, which was commissioned by Mr. Amewu, boasts an impressive array of facilities, including 106 lockable stores, 146 sheds, a warehouse, a crèche, Police, health, and fire posts. The project was funded by the World Bank under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP) through the Local Government Ministry.
Mr. Amewu urged traders to take good care of the facility to prolong its lifespan and called on the revenue mobilisation taskforce of the Assembly to be accountable to ensure development. He also emphasized the government's commitment to completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones for the constituency's development.
The event also saw the commissioning of new 16-unit garages at Gbi Godenu and the Volta Regional Public Employment Centre.
