Despite the controversy surrounding some of Napo's statements on campaign platforms, Chairman Wontumi said that the majority of Ghanaians are "happy" about him as a vice presidential candidate in an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV in Kumasi. He also gave Napo credit for the Free Senior High School policy's effective execution. He was in charge when we established our first policy, which was free education. The same Napo was just as competent when he was moved from the education ministry to the energy ministry. He maintained, "It's about the policies, making sure they are good."
To demonstrate to Ghanaians which candidate is more qualified to serve as vice president for the next four years, Chairman Wontumi believes that a debate between the NDC and NPP running mates is required. "What can you do? What have you done? This is how you can judge NAPO. Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang has to meet the debate mano a mano for everybody to see," he challenged.
During his tenure as Minister of Education from 2017 to 2021, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was named Ghana's best minister in both 2017 and 2019. After being chosen as the NPP's vice presidential candidate, he was then transferred to the Ministry of Energy in 2021 and remained there until Thursday, July 11, 2024, when he resigned.
John Mahama, the NDC's presidential candidate, and a number of party officials have, however, turned down requests for a debate with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's presidential candidate, and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, their vice presidential candidate. Mahama pushed Dr. Bawumia to discuss the current situation of the economy during a recent campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region, saying that a discussion is unnecessary.
