Message From Kevin Taylor to Samuel Ablakwa Regarding Sefa Kayi's Daughter

Noting concerns that her hire violated a post-election moratorium on public sector recruiting, prominent journalist Kevin Ekow Taylor has urged Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to withdraw the recent appointment of Fafa Kayi, daughter of renowned broadcaster Kwame Sefa Kayi.

Taylor reminded the minister of Chief of Staff Julius Debrah's order to halt any new government appointments after the December 7, 2024 elections in a public post on X (previously Twitter). Dear @S_OkudzetoAblak, Minister of Foreign Affairs, this is the daughter of Kwame Sefa Kayi, who started working right after the elections. Since everyone is subject to the law, kindly take the necessary action," Taylor stated.

After graduating from Academic City University College in August 2022 with first-class honors in Communication Arts, Fafa Kayi was hired in late December to work in the ministry's communications department. Taylor and other critics contend that her familial ties may have impacted the timing of her employment in violation of the official ban, even if her qualifications are undeniable.

Taylor's action demonstrates a larger initiative by the Mahama administration to guarantee transparency in all government entities and enforce rigorous adherence to recruitment regulations. The Foreign Affairs Ministry has not yet responded to inquiries over Fafa Kayi's status, despite growing calls for a review of post-election appointments.
