Over 30,000 lives have been touched in Amenfi Central through a health screening and donation exercise organized by Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the NDC Parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central in the Western Region. Joana Gyan Cudjoe is committed to improving the well-being of the people, one step at a time.

Background:

In a significant health initiative aimed at supporting residents of the Amenfi Central constituency, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe successfully concluded a week-long free health screening exercise. The event, which started on Monday, 14th October 2024, at Manso Amenfi, ended on Sunday, 20th October 2024, at Adjakaa Manso.

The free health screening, conducted across seven communities in Amenfi Central, was organized by the Joana Gyan Foundation and reached over 30,000 residents. The targeted communities included Manso Amenfi, Amuni, Kwamang, Kwakuboah, Ayiem, Wassa Agona, and Adjakaa Manso.

According to Thelma Nunoo, the team lead for the Joana Gyan Foundation, the initiative exceeded its target of 10,000 residents, providing critical health services and donations that addressed pressing issues like malaria, menstrual hygiene, and general well-being.

Each day’s program began at 8 AM, with events held at various locations across the constituency. The NDC Parliamentary candidate used this opportunity to distribute over 10,000 treated mosquito nets to combat malaria, which continues to be a significant health concern, especially among young people.

In addition to the mosquito nets, Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe provided 30,000 sanitary pads, acknowledging the importance of menstrual hygiene management for female students. This initiative aimed to reduce the challenges young women face during their menstrual cycles, ensuring they can attend school without disruptions.

The health screenings included breast cancer checks, laboratory tests, drug distribution, ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) services, and blood tests. By offering these services free of charge, Hon. Cudjoe hopes to raise health awareness and encourage early disease detection among the residents.

Below were the locations for each day:

- Tuesday, 15th October: Amuni

- Wednesday, 16th October: Kwamang

- Thursday, 17th October: Ayiem

- Friday, 18th October: Kwakuboah

- Saturday, 19th October: Agona Amenfi

- Sunday, 20th October: Adjakaa Manso

Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe believes that investing in the health of students and the wider community is essential for their academic success and overall well-being. Her initiative is not just about distributing resources, but also about empowering the youth in Amenfi Central to take charge of their health and future.

The health activities have undoubtedly benefited residents and students, significantly raising awareness about essential health issues. As the initiative progressed, turnout increased, making it a landmark event in the Amenfi Central constituency.
