After the initial round of appointments was made public, MyNewsGh.com has exclusively acquired information about a potential cabinet appointment of President John Dramani Mahama, barring any last-minute adjustments.
In the first group, President Mahama named Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as the Attorney General, John Abdulai Jinapor as the Minister-designate for Energy, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as the Minister-designate for Finance.
According to this source, the extremely important former Minority Leader Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who is heading to the Ministry of Defense, is on the outstanding list. He outperformed Prof. Joshua Alabi, who was reportedly interested in the same role.
Unless there are last-minute adjustments, President Mahama is also expected to restore former Lithur Nana Oye Bampoe to the position of Minister in the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection. Dr. Victor Bampoe, a reserved former Deputy Health Minister, may also be promoted to Health Minister.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the dynamic and well-liked MP for North Tongu, is anticipated to be promoted from deputy education minister in the last Mahama administration to full minister, similar to Victor Bampoe, who was allegedly very interested in becoming foreign minister.
Argument in favour of his nomination as Education Minister include his anti-corruption credentials to combat suspected corruption surrounding the school feeding program, internet service provision for second cycle institutions and food procurement under the Free SHS program. John Mahama is said to have a strong trust in the ability of the four term MP to bring sanity into the education sector.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration will be going to Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a lawyer of over 24-years standing at the Ghana Bar and who served as a Deputy Minister of Transport in Mahama’s first term and is currently the special aide to the President. Like Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey who served as Akufo-Addo’s aide for years, Joyce Bawa Mogtari is reportedly one of the most trusted people around the President making him trust her with foreign affairs.
Again, sources close to the party and the office of the President told this portal Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, a former Minister of Communications and a trusted ally of Mahama has been penciled for the crucial role of Minister for Local Government and Rural Development. This role is believed to have links to the 2028 elections given the crucial role Dr. Omane Boamah played in winning the 2024 election. Dr. Boamah is noted for his expertise in governance and grassroots engagement, making qualified to run Mahama’s decentralization agenda.
For the agricultural sector, a cornerstone of Ghana’s economy, John Mahama is said to have settled on Honourable Eric Opoku, a former Minister for the Brong Ahafo Region. For the past 8 years, the MP has been the parliamentary ranking member on the Food and Agric Committee.
MyNewsGh.com has also intercepted a list of persons being considered for Deputy Ministers and 16 Regional Ministers but this list is said to be inconclusive as consultations and checks are still ongoing.
