A Day of Mourning Turns to Tragedy: Brothers Killed in Crash After Friend’s Funeral"

What began as a day of sorrow turned into unimaginable grief for a family and community in Busia County. Brothers Brian and Juma were on their way home from burying their friend, Otis, when their lives were tragically cut short in a devastating accident near Mundika Market.

The two were riding a hired motorbike along the Busia-Kisumu Highway when they were reportedly hit from behind by a speeding Probox. The collision was fatal—both brothers died on impact, while the injured rider later passed away in the hospital.

According to locals, the vehicle involved was suspected of smuggling goods from Uganda. Overwhelmed by anger and grief, bystanders set the car and its cargo ablaze. The driver and his accomplice escaped before authorities could intervene.

The cruel irony? Brian and Juma had just mourned a friend lost in a prior road accident—only to meet the same fate.

Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia denounced the incident, pledging a thorough investigation into the crash.

As the victims’ bodies lie in the Busia County Referral Hospital Mortuary, the community mourns not only their loss but also the rising road dangers—and the frequent lack of accountability that follows such tragedies.
