Ghanaian voters have been warned by political expert Justice Siaw Mandela to abstain from violence during the next elections.
He warned that there could be severe repercussions for anyone participating and urged the public to stay away from politicians who would encourage them to participate in violent acts.
He pointed out that some people have suffered physical harm and been disregarded by the politicians they acted violently for.
Therefore, he has urged Ghanaians to do everything in their power to steer clear of politicians who want to use violence in the next elections for their own personal benefit.
"Ghanaians should not commit suicide because someone desires political power, in my opinion. The young men and women ought to be aware that these politicians take advantage of them for their own personal benefit. We must utilize these instances to counsel ourselves because some of the people who were enlisted as vigilantes may have suffered injuries. You cannot win an election by using violence.
Additionally, he counseled the Electoral Commission (EC) to hold free, fair, and transparent elections that are agreeable to all competing political parties and other interested parties. "We must keep in mind that elections can be uneventful and peaceful. Why should we witness violence at a voting exercise where you go to cast your ballot for the candidate of your choice?
"It shouldn't be a "do or die" election. In order to expose those who ring the war bells as those who stand to gain personally rather than those who resort to violence, it should be the most peaceful action possible. You would have died a pointless death if you were involved in any kind of violence. During the next elections, Mandela ordered the Police Service to deal brutally with anyone who might raise false alarms.
