According to today's TV3 GH report, on January 10, 2025, police in an Accra suburb shot and killed four armed looters who were not attempting to conceal.
Customers and merchants were alarmed by the incident, which occurred near the core market area.
Director James Owusu, the Ashaiman Region Police Officer, stated that the police received information of a planned break-in targeting a local company.
To apprehend the culprits, officials were sent to the scene.
Director Owusu said, "Our group confronted the suspects and asked them to surrender their weapons."
"All things considered, they started shooting, compelling us to answer."
The cops shouted, "Give up your weapons!" before shooting erupted, according to witnesses. According to Ama Mensah, a merchant,
"I heard the police shouting as I was selling my goods. After that, discharges occurred. Everyone started to distance themselves as much as they could.
Each of the four suspects was killed during the several-minute-long gunfire. During the deal, no police officers or civilians were hurt.
Director Owusu said that the individuals had a criminal history in the district and were armed.
"These people were known to us for their association in various burglaries," he continued.
"Their disposal is a critical stage toward further developing security in Ashaiman."
For identification and dissection, the deceased's assemblages have been sent to the Police Clinic funeral home.
To determine whether the individuals were significant to a larger criminal network operating in the area, the police have dispatched an examination team.
Director Owusu went on to say, "We are following prompts distinguish any associates,"
"We want to destroy any packs compromising the security of our local area."
Residents' reactions to the occurrence have been mixed. Some people applaud the police for their prompt action, while others are concerned about the use of lethal force in a crowded area.
"It's great that the police are taking action against thugs, but it's dangerous to shoot them without trying to hide close to the market," said Kofi Asare, a local trader. It's possible that innocent people suffered injury.
As a result of these concerns, Director Owusu assured the public that the police are committed to ensuring the welfare of the public.
"We treat the security of our residents in a serious way," he stated. "Our officials are prepared to deal with such circumstances with extreme attention to detail to forestall inadvertent blow-back."
Police have urged anyone with information related to the incident or other crimes in the area to come forward.
Director Owusu emphasized that "local area participation is essential in our battle against wrongdoing."
"We urge occupants to report any dubious exercises to assist us with keeping up with harmony and security in Ashaiman."
