Dominic Akuritinga Ayine is a prominent Ghanaian politician and a dedicated member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He has represented the Bolgatanga East Constituency in the Upper East Region across the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

As of February 16, 2026, Dr Ayine serves as Ghana's Attorney General and Minister for Justice, a position he has held since his appointment by President John Mahama on January 22, 2025.

Before this, he held the role of Deputy Attorney General and Deputy Minister for Justice from approximately 2017 to 2021.

Having been re-elected in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024, demonstrating a sustained commitment to his constituents through his service in the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th Parliaments, he has been serving as the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East since 2013.

Early Life and Education

Dominic Ayine was born on January 6, 1966, in Zuarungu, a community in the Upper East Region of Ghana. He completed his O-level studies at Notre Dame Seminary Secondary School and pursued his A-levels at Tamale Secondary School.

Dr Ayine earned a Bachelor of Arts in Law from the University of Ghana, Legon, in the Greater Accra Region, and he also obtained a General Skills Certificate (GSL) in 1995.

He furthered his education by earning an LLM in International Economic Law from the University of Michigan Law School in 1998.

Dominic then attended Stanford University Law School in California, USA, where he obtained an LLM in International Trade Law in 2003, followed by a JSD in Trade and Democracy in 2006.

Politics

Dr Ayine is an active member of the National Democratic Congress and has a significant political presence, representing the Bolgatanga East constituency during his tenure in the Seventh and Eighth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
