Background

Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare is a distinguished Ghanaian lawyer and politician with over a decade of experience in public office and ministerial roles.

She began her political career as the Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts in February 2013.

After serving in that capacity until 2017, she was appointed Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry in early 2025 by President John Dramani Mahama, who previously appointed her to her first ministerial position.

A member of the National Democratic Congress, she currently represents the Techiman North Constituency in both the 8th and 9th Parliaments of the 4th Republic of Ghana.

In her current role, Ofosu-Adjare continues to influence Ghana's economic sectors by overseeing trade and industry initiatives.

Early Life and Education

Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare is the third among ten daughters born to Isaac Kwadwo Adjei Mensah, who was a lawyer, businessman, and politician, and his wife, a businesswoman.

She completed her secondary education at St Monica's Secondary School in Mampong, Kumasi, where she obtained both her Ordinary and Advanced level certificates.

She then went on to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science.

Continuing her academic pursuits, Ofosu-Adjare enrolled at the University of Ghana, Legon, where she studied Law and obtained an LLB with honors in 2002. She further advanced her studies and graduated with a degree in law in 2004.

Career

Ofosu-Adjare began her legal practice with the Holy Trinity Chambers in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, in 2004, quickly ascending to become a partner at the firm. She also worked as a lawyer for the Legal Aid Scheme in the Ashanti Region.

In addition to her legal practice, she has been involved in various boards. She has served on the Board of Multi Trust Financial Company in Kumasi since 2004 and is currently a board member of Federation Commodities Limited.

In 2009, she was appointed to the Board of the Tema Oil Refinery by the President of the Republic of Ghana, serving until 2013.

On March 1, 2013, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama to lead the newly established Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

Committees

In Parliament, Ofosu-Adjare is an active member of the Health Committee and the Appointments Committee, contributing her expertise to various legislative processes.

Personal Life

Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare is married to Lawrence Ofosu-Adjare, and together they have two children.

She is the daughter of the late Isaac Kwadwo Adjei-Mensah, who was a former Minister of Water Resources, Works, and Housing during the Rawlings administration and also served as the Member of Parliament for Techiman North, a position that she currently occupies.
