Vincent Ekow Assafuah is a notable Ghanaian lawyer and politician affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He currently serves as the Member of Parliament for the Old-Tafo Constituency in the Ashanti Region, where he has actively engaged in parliamentary duties, including inspecting developmental projects within his region.

Previously, he held the position of Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ministry of Education.

Early Life and Education

Born in Kumasi to Polykarp and Paulina Assafuah, Vincent Ekow Assafuah spent his formative years in this vibrant city. His official hometown is listed as Anomabo Anomansa in the Central Region of Ghana.

He completed his early education at Martyrs of Uganda Junior High School and later pursued studies in General Arts at St. Hubert’s Seminary in Kumasi.

Assafuah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He further obtained a Master of Arts degree in Economic Policy and a Master of Science degree in Development Finance from the University of Ghana (UG), Legon.

In addition, he earned a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from Central University and a Professional Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law.

His pursuit of knowledge continued at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, where he acquired a Master of Arts in Public Relations, and he is currently working towards a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Policy at the University of Ghana.

Career

Vincent Ekow Assafuah's career began with his election as the National President of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) during his National Service, following an earlier attempt at the USAG presidential election.

After serving a year in that role, he worked as a special assistant to the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, from 2015 to 2017.

In 2017, he briefly served as the acting Deputy Communication Director of the NPP. Once the NPP assumed power in January 2017, he was appointed as the head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Education in 2018.

Additionally, he works as a part-time lecturer at Dominion University College. Notably, he is also the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, having been officially sworn into this role during a ministerial reshuffle in February 2024.

Tenure in Office

As of March 2026, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has held significant positions in his career:

Member of Parliament (Old Tafo): Approximately 5 years and 2 months. He assumed office on January 7, 2021, after winning the December 2020 parliamentary elections, and was recently re-elected in December 2024 for a second term.

Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development: Approximately 1 year and 10 months. He was nominated for this role on February 14, 2024, and officially sworn in along with other newly appointed ministers in May 2024.

He continues to serve in both capacities within the current administration.

Politics

Vincent Ekow Assafuah made his political debut in June 2020 when he contested for the New Patriotic Party seat in the Old Tafo Constituency after the incumbent, Anthony Akoto Osei, announced he would not run for re-election.

Assafuah won the parliamentary elections in December 2020 and was appointed as Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development in 2024.

Assafuah is an active member of several parliamentary committees, including the Youth and Sports Committee (Ranking Member) and the House Committee. He was also previously a member of the Education Committee.

Personal Life

A committed Christian well-grounded in the Catholic faith, Vincent Ekow Assafuah is among the few Ghanaian politicians who continue to fulfill their role as a mass servant within the Catholic Church.

He recently married his longtime partner, Dr Charis (also known as Dr Chris), a medical doctor and entrepreneur, in a private traditional ceremony on March 7, 2026, in Nkoranza, Bono East Region.

As of now, no official reports or public records indicate that he has children. Notably, during a March 2026 social media discussion, an individual claimed that when previously asked, the MP stated he did not have kids.

Additionally, a 2025 report clarified that he was not involved in an unrelated paternity rumor that involved another NPP MP.
