Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the esteemed Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, has charged the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), along with all stakeholders in Ghana’s electioneering process, to ensure that the outcome of the 2024 elections reflects the will of Ghanaians.

Delivering a sermon at his church on Sunday, July 7, 2024, Archbishop Duncan-Williams stated that the importance of the 2024 elections cannot be emphasized enough, as it holds the key to the sustainability, or otherwise, of Ghana’s thriving democracy.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams explained that the outcome of the elections will determine whether Ghana experiences its version of the Kenyan protests.

He warned the two leading political parties not to engage in any activities that would lead to an outcome different from the wishes and aspirations of Ghanaians.

He also cautioned electoral officers against allowing themselves to be used by any political party, warning that anyone who takes money to change the will of the people will experience hardship that will extend to generations of his family.

“Someone spoke to me about what is happening in Kenya, and I said that what you see happening in Kenya, there is a possibility in the pipeline, but it's an undercurrent with the youth. It is around 2025 going forward that you will see it.

“Depending on the outcome of the election and how people win the 2024 elections. If anybody tries to break or play any games on both sides to win this election and disrespect the will and vote of the people and sabotage the will of the people, Ghana will be shocked. People will be shocked that it is the same Ghanaians who are quiet and loving people and don’t want trouble.

“Both political parties should listen to me; if anybody tries to use conspiracies, spirituality, or any means other than respecting the will of the people, the implications will be unbearable. Those who take money to manipulate things for somebody to win the elections against the will of the people, there will be implications. If there’s any election in the history of the country that we shouldn’t play with, then it’s the 2024 election. It is a test of our democratic credentials,” he said.

Though there are candidates from other political parties and independent candidates, the 2024 elections are between the NDC, led by John Dramani Mahama, who is seeking a return to power, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is leading the NPP’s charge to break the 8-year political cycle.
