Professor H Kwasi Prempeh, CDD-Ghana boss
Professor Henry Kwesi Prempeh, the Executive Director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has lamented recent advice by the Attorney General to the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO).
The advice in question relates to EOCO's request for direction on a case involving the former sanitation minister, Cecilia Dapaah.
The case, which involves a significant cash scandal linked to the minister, was referred to EOCO by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The AG's office stated that there were no grounds to investigate the former minister and her husband for money laundering, contrary to the recommendation by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
Prof. Prempeh, in a Facebook post, appeared unhappy with the turn of events, pointing out that the advice was virtually rendering anti-graft agencies useless.
"We might as well shut down the OSP, EOCO, and all other pseudo-independent state investigative and law enforcement agencies and save ourselves both the pretense and the expense," his post dated May 2, 2024, read.
He is not the only public personality to weigh in on the matter. Dr. Amoako Baah, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the advice, as has the boss of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Mrs. Mary Awelana Addah.
