Afia Pokua cries to God after Manhyia Palace ordeal

With everything she has faced recently, Afia Pokua couldn't help but pour out her heart to God.

Overwhelmed by dark moments, especially after a challenging experience at the Manhyia Palace, she has sought solace and guidance from God.

In a series of Facebook posts on Tuesday, September 23, 2024, the Agoo FM journalist wrote: “The king of kings and the lord of lords. Maker of the universe, hear my cry and comfort me. In my darkest days, strengthen me and guide my steps. Because in you alone I can trust.”

She added, "Lord God almighty, hear my cry! I am facing rejection and disgrace, suffering from pain, and fear and I'm in constant sorrow. Who do I turn to? Where do I go? Where do I belong? Lord, hear my cry! When you say a prayer, kindly say one for me. I need it now more than ever."

She also expressed her gratitude, stating that despite everything, she gives thanks to God.

“In everything, I thank the Lord God Almighty,'" parts of her post read.

Afia Pokua and Mona Gucci summoned

After publicly apologizing on their social media platforms for disrespecting the Asantehene, Afia Pokua and Mona Gucci honoured an invitation to the Manhyia Palace to deliver a formal apology to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Accompanied by Prophet Kumchacha and a delegation from Onua TV, where Afia made her controversial comments, they arrived dressed in all black.

Throughout the proceedings, Afia was seen kneeling before the Otumfuo’s representative, Chiefs, and elders.

Moderated by the Otumfuo’s Okyeame (Linguist), both parties addressed the issues, with the offenders presenting their third apology to the delegation.

Afia Pokua's apology rejected

After hours of pleading at the palace, Afia Pokua was told to leave and never return.

Even the faction of elders advocating for her could not persuade the Otumfuo’s representative to accept her apology.

One elder pleaded on her behalf, noting that she had remained on her knees since her arrival and that her apology should be considered.

However, the Otumfuo’s representative remained firm, stating that in the palace, an apology is not always sufficient.

He emphasised that sometimes offenders must face their consequences, and Afia Pokua’s situation was one of those cases.





Background

The controversy erupted when Afia Pokua, a journalist at Agoo TV, criticised the Asantehene for his perceived silence amid ongoing conflicts involving his subjects and other tribes, including the Bonos.

On Onua FM’s "Bribi Gye Gye Wo," hosted by Mona Gucci, Pokua expressed frustration over what she viewed as Ashantis displaying superiority over other tribes and the Asantehene’s inaction towards it.

These statements ignited outrage among the Ashantis, prompting sub-chiefs, queen mothers, and even the youth to voice their criticism, including organising protests and press conferences.
