Sat, 23 Aug 1997 Source: --

Accra, Aug. 20, - The government today denied recent media reports which hinted at impending changes in the leadership of parliament and the judiciary. The reports said that Mr Justice D. F. Annan, speaker, will be replaced by the chief justice, Mr Justice Isaac Kobina Abban, while Mr Justice F.Y Kpegah, a Supreme Court judge, will replace the chief justice. A press statement signed by Mr J.L. M. Amissah, secretary to the president, said "government categorically denies that any such change is contemplated nor does it intend to make any such proposition. "Equally unfounded is the speculation that Mr Erasmus Kalitsi, Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority, and J.K. Hagan, Managing Director of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), are to be removed form office", the statement added.
