Catholic Bishops kick against GMOs

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference has kicked against the introduction of genetically modified foods to the local market.

According to the Bishops, the country could achieve food sufficiency and even produce surplus for export, using the conventional means of farming.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference has therefore advised government not to rush with the introduction of the GMO’s.

It’s President, Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu speaking to XYZ News said government must thoroughly study the policy before it is adopted.

“Our position is that at the moment Government should thread cautiously…we need to have a proper study of the whole issue.

“There are pros and cons of GMOs, there are benefits and there are side effects, in America for example some children are suffering side effects of GMOs…so we need to make a thorough study before we adopt it as a policy”.
