A woman who had gone to CMB in Accra to purchase some foodstuffs to sell on Tuesday morning found herself in tears.

Asked why, she said a police officer hit her with a stick after directing her to use a different route.

The woman who says she’s a widow and had to cater for her children alone told a UTV reporter that since government said food vendors can still operate, she decided to come to town to get some foodstuffs for her business.

“We were going to board a vehicle to go home when they said we can’t use that way so we should go back. As soon as I turned, he moved towards me and hit me with a stick!” the tearful woman told a UTV reporter.

“God will punish him, God will surely punish him," she added as other traders asked why she was crying.

Unlike other markets in the region, Tudu and CMB have recorded a huge number of traders and patrons despite the partial lockdown which took effect 1:00am on Monday.

Accra, Kasoa, Tema, and Kumasi have been locked down to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Persons considered to render essential services which include food vendors and foodstuffs sellers, however, are allowed to keep operating their businesses.
