U.K Penal Reform delegation arrives

Accra, April 17, GNA - A three-member Penal Reform delegation from the United Kingdom is in the country on a five-day penal reform assessment mission.

A statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior and signed by Mrs Adiza Ofori-Adu, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, said the team would observe the prison system and offer advice on how the system could be reviewed as part of efforts to humanely transform it. Among the issues to be considered by members of the delegation are the current legislative and other regulatory systems for managing prison system, collaborative initiatives among the various actors in the criminal justice system in the country, resource generation and skills acquisition in a sustainable manner.

The team would call on the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, the Chief Justice, the Acting Director-General of Prisons and the Inspector-General of Police, among others.
