Ghana needs a third force political party - Group

The Ellembelle branch of the Concerned Citizens of Ghana (CCOF) in collaboration with the Floating Voters Union of Ghana (FVUG) have called for the formation of a third force political party in the country.

They said the two main political parties being, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have failed to ensure the socio-economic development for the society.

“The administration of the two parties have brought undue hardships to Ghanaians and must be voted out”, Mr Ofori Blay, President of the CCOF/FVUG said.

Mr Blay, flanked by his executive members, said this during a press conference at Esiama in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

He said the groups were unhappy with the state of the economy and the performance of the two major political parties.

Mr Blay said the two parties, when in power, failed to utilize the nation’s resources judiciously to guarantee an improved socio-economic status for the nation.

“Ghana is blessed with many resources like gold, bauxite, manganese but our leaders under the two political parties have done little to use them to our benefit”, Mr Blay said adding still we have untarred roads, power crises, poor health facilities, high unemployment rates and many others.

In view of this, “we as a group believe that all stakeholders of smaller political parties in Ghana need to form a political alliance, as a third force that would form a strong government to win election come 2016”.

He said though the formation of such an alliance could face obstacles other countries in similar situations have succeeded in doing this bring positive results to their populace.

Mr Blay said the amendment of the 1992 constitution, provision of free education, the election of political chief executives, and finding solutions to the unemployment problem were some of the concerns that should be tackled by government.
