Ghanaians told: Be prepared to face harsher days ahead

Koforidua, Feb. 24, GNA - Ghanaians have been asked to prepare for harsher times ahead with the hiking of petroleum prices by the NPP government in line with its "property-owning democracy" ideology.

The call was contained in a statement issued by the Eastern Regional branch of the CPP on Thursday in commemoration of the 39th anniversary of the overthrow of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah's regime. The statement, jointly signed by the Regional Chairman, Nana Owusu Sekyere and Regional Secretary, Mr Kwabena Apea, noted that unlike the CPP government, which pursued socialist policies that did not exclude private enterprise, "today, the current neo-colonialist government is pursuing a so-called property-owning democracy that is bringing untold suffering to Ghanaians."

The hiking of petroleum prices, it said, had "brought confusion throughout the country", adding, "indeed, our beautiful country is at the corss-roads now and Ghanaians must take a decision."

It noted that ever since the overthrow of the CPP government in 1966, through a collaboration between the American CIA and the Danquah-Busia tradition, "the country's clock of progress had been pushed backwards for so many years."

The statement claimed that "Ghana has never been the same since the 1966 coup, as no successive government has done even half of what the CPP did for Ghana", saying, "no other government has added a single industry to what the CPP under Dr Nkrumah established."

"There was no devaluation, no divestiture, no mass retrenchment of workers", the statement said, adding, "there was no single armed robbery case in Ghana because all adults had employment."

It referred to the fee-free education from basic to university level under the CPP government and questioned, "is it a crime to train our own professionals, produce our Volta Corned beef, sugar, refine our gold, construct the Akosombo Dam to produce electricity for all parts of the country?"

The statement said, "today as expected by the Western powers, Africa is at their beck and call since the coup of 1966 had benefited them a lot."
