Health minister Alex Segbefia has revealed that Government will no longer bond nurses trained in public health training facilities from 2017.
According to him, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) raised concerns about the public wage bill, hence the decision to abolish the bonding and allowance system.
If the policy is scarped , Nurses after ompleting their studies will have to apply to the Ghana Health Service to be employed, just like their colleagues from the private training institutions.
Addressing a public forum on the upgrading of the Volta regional hospital to a Teaching Hospital in Ho, Mr Segbefia said the move is intended to ensure prudent economic management by government.
Ghana is currently under a three-year financial bailout program with the the IMF. The Bretton-wood institution has commended Ghana for its performance under the arrangement so far.
