Soldiers Asked To be Disciplined

Tema, (Greater Accra) 23 Oct., Captain Mike Danquah, Chief Staff Officer at the Naval Headquarters, today urged soldiers to be imbued with determination and cooperative spirit in the defence of the country. He reminded troops taking part in a five-week combined services training exercise code-named ''Cost '97'' that with such discipline the armed forces could play its role effectively. Captain Danquah was speaking at an inter-platoon obstacle crossing competition organised at the Michel Camp for 11 officers and 114 men drawn from the army, navy and air force as part of the exercise. ''Panther'' platoon emerged the overall winners clocking 13 minutes 39 seconds to clear the 18 obstacles. Ordinary Seaman David Amevegbe of ''Cobra'' platoon was adjudged the best individual performer as he took four minutes 50 seconds to clear the obstacles. The soldiers jumped, ran, climbed and crawled during the exercise which included a 12-foot wall, a six-foot wall balancing, a six-foot ditch, skywalk and barbed wire fence. Two other platoons namely, ''Tiger'' and ''Guerilla'' took part in the competition.
