Central Regional House Of Chiefs Admits New Members

Cape Coast, Aug 20, - Five newly-installed paramount chiefs in the Central Region were yesterday admitted into the membership of the Central Regional House of VChiefs at a ceremony in Cape Coast. They are Nana Okese Essandoh the fourth, of Nkusukum traditional area, Nana Agyeman Kyirewia Kodie the fourth, Abrem traditional area, Nenyi Ghartey the seventh, Effutu traditional area, Nana Kwamena Ansah the fourth, Eguafo traditional area and Nana Amanfo Edu the sixth, Mankessim traditional area. Odeefuo Boa Amponsem the third, president of the House, advised them to be vigilant, patient and accommodating in the discharge of their duties. Odeefuo Boa Amponsem asked the Lands Department to make prompt payment of royalties to chiefs. "It is unfortunate that the Forestry Department does not care about the payment of these royalties," he said, adding that royalties for the last quarter of 1996 was paid in June this year after some pressure from the beneficiaries.'' He also asked for the restoration of the payment of royalties on resources from outside forest reserves.
