General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has described the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Mrs. Jean Mensa as a 'King Kong' who has come to change everything she met in the office.

According to the NDC's Chief Scribe, every single interview the EC boss has conducted in the media gives him a clear conviction that she does not know the job she has been ascribed to as she continues to make mistakes on every account.

" . . She does not know her work, but if you are a newly appointed EC boss and you don’t know the work, you can learn on the job in humility by asking those who are abreast with the work. I believe that the many mistakes she is committing could have been avoided if she had humbled herself to learn on the job,” he jabbed.

He indicated that Mrs. Jean Mensa is making a big mistake believing that her appointment as the EC Chairperson will provide her with automatic knowledge to run the Commission which does not make her learn anything from anyone.

“ . . she has made her mind that once she has been appointed as the Chairperson of the EC, at once the power will provide her all the knowledge she needs to run the Commission and so she does not need to learn anything else from anyone . . . she has come as 'King Kong' to change everything at the Commission,” he chided.

Mrs. Jean Mensa during a visit to Despite Media last week disclosed that plans are underway to change the Israeli company, SuperTech Ltd (STL) from handling the data of the voters’ register due to several reasons.

But reacting to the comment of the EC boss, Asiedu Nketia on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show said even though nobody can get the key to make changes in the voters’ register, there are record tray which makes it impossible for the company to be compromised.

“We have a record tray to determine whoever at any point in time making request properly to either add or remove a name from the data through the appropriate channel. That is one mechanism which gives assurance and trust in the registration process . . . I believe that if she truly understands the process she would not have said that to disgrace herself in public,” he jabbed.

He however explained that all the political parties agreed to employ the services of STL to manage the voters’ register data.

“ . . The country’s IT infrastructure is not advanced and its associated issues of hacking into the system, and so we needed to deal with an institution which is advanced in IT and will able to secure our data for us . . . everybody at that time accepted that STL from Israel was far advanced in technology than Ghana,” he clarified.

The Electoral Commission is worried that its IT staff do not have administrative rights to passwords to access the biometric database gathered through Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) equipment.

Mrs. Jean Mensa said she was told by STL, they found the Ghanaian staff “untrainable”.

Mrs. Mensa revealed that STL contracted for the maintenance of the EC’s software and data centre equipment, has unlimited access, as it remotely controls everything.
