Nkawkaw (E/R), Jan 4, GNA - There was low turn out for the

District Assembly and Unit Committee elections at most polling

centers in the Kwahu West Municipality. The election, which was scheduled to come on December 30

2010, had to be postponed to January 04 as the Electoral

Commission (EC) failed to provide voting materials for 20 out of

the 26 electoral areas in the municipality. As at 0830 hours only three registered voters had cast their

votes at the Post Office 93B" polling center out of 643 registered

voters while eight people out of 814 registered voters had voted at

Post Office 93A" polling center as at 0835 hours at the Nkawkaw-

Asuogya electoral area.

At the other centers visited, between 26 and 157 people had

cast their votes as against registered voters of between 473 and

1,690. Some of the registered voters interviewed attributed the low

turn-out to the postponement of the election several times as most

of the electorate were not sure that the elections would be held on

Tuesday. Mr Asare Amoako, a returning officer, said adequate voting

materials had been sent to all the 20 electoral areas where the

elections could not be held on December 30 last year.
