Legal practitioner to contest parliamentary election in Bolgatanga

Bolgatanga, Dec 30, GNA - A 37-year-old lawyer, Mr Rockson Akugre, on Thursday declared his intention to contest the primaries of the People's National Convention Party (PNC) in Bolgatanga for the 2012 parliamentary election.

Mr Akugre, who announced his intention at a press conference, said he was not happy about the deplorable living conditions of people in the constituency.

"There are glaring realities of poverty which are manifest in the inability of the people to pay school fees, access clean water, medical car= e and poor housing and sanitary facilities," Mr Akugre said. He said there was poor road network and linkages 93and this is particularly worrying, given the fact that this constituency doubles as a regional capital."

Mr Akugre said the absence of school infrastructure had left many school children to study under trees and health facilities in the constituency were not the best.

Mr Akugre said he would work hard to ensure that good infrastructure and portable water were provided for the people in the constituency. He said he had served the party at the local structures and onetime became the Regional Organizer of the party in the Region and that his experience, he would lobby to bring more development to the area. Mr Akugre said he would do his campaign devoid of insults and added that he was disturbed about the way politics was being conducted in the country and suggested that politics should be done based on issues and not attacks on personalities. 30 Dec 10
