"Georgido dismissed...As Kotoko chairman", is the banner headline on the front page of the Times. The accompanying story says the Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, Life Patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, has relieved Mr. George Aduse-Poku (Georgido) of his post as the club's chief executive. The Times says the Asantehene took the decision in consultation with the patrons, in accordance with the club's constitution. The paper says a statement signed in Kumasi yesterday by Nana Edward C.K. Asante, Registrar of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs, said the Interim Management Committee (IMC) has been dissolved and asked Mr. Aduse-Poku to hand over the management of the club to the Board of Directors by Saturday, November 22. In another front page story the Times reports that a senior Customs Officer stationed at the AFGO Cargo Village at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra, had the shock of his life when a tuber of yam given to him by a worker at the village was later found to contain a large quantity of cannabis. The cannabis, according to the paper, were compressed, placed in a hollow in the yam and cleverly sealed to avoid detection. The yam was among a consignment sent to the village for export processing by an exporter whose name has been withheld. The Times says sources close to the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) said the AFGO worker who gave the tuber of yam to the Customs officer, had begged for two tubers from the exporter during their processing. According to the sources, the exporter initially refused to accede to the request and rather offered to give the man 200,000 cedis to buy some of the yams from the market. GRI

The Times in a third front page reports on the arrest of a watchman over the death of the retired managing director of the Bank for Housing and Construction (BHC). The paper says Moro Dauda Banse, 47, a former night watchman at the residence of Dr. Abu Ahmed, the former managing director of BHC, was on Monday arrested by the police for questioning in connection with Dr. Ahmed's murder. Banse, an employee of the BHC, was removed from Dr. Ahmed's residence about two months ago following a misunderstanding between them. The Times says a source close to the Police Public Relations Directorate said in Accra yesterday that Banse was arrested by the police to, assist them in investigations into last Friday's murder of Dr. Ahmed at his residence at Fifth Circular Extension, Cantonments, Accra. Banse, the source said, has denied knowledge of the murder. The Times says Mrs. Lila Ahmed, in the company of two others, found her husband in his living room lying prostrate with blood covering his body. GRI
