Crowd Violence At Kumasi Stadium

Sat, 14 Dec 2002 Source: EBENEZER OFORI ANIM

Football in Ghana has now become something like a passion or religion, but most people seem not to understand the rules and regulations governing it or even learn something from what happened to the nation on May 9th.

Just last Friday, there was another nasty incident which occurred when Asanteman Secondary School defeated Kumasi Anglican Secondary school by two goals to one in the ongoing Ashanti Regional schools and colleges soccer tournament. Immediately after ex-FIFA referee Osei Nsiah brought proceedings to an end, students of Kumasi Anglican school (KASS) who were not happy with the performance of the referee started throwing stones, plastic bottles and above all got the nerve to break some of the PLASTIC CHAIRS and threw them onto the tartan tracks before the full glare of the organisers and the Headmaster of the school, Mr. Kontonkyi.

The authorities of the tournament are yet to release any statement on the unlawful behaviour of the KASS students. In the other match OKESS whipped Kumasi Academy 4-0.
