Accra, June 13 Two persons were drowned when a bridge between Akweteman and Achimota collapsed during the downpour yesterday. The body of one of them has been recovered and buried while the other is yet to be found. A third person was rescued,

The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr Nat Nuno Amarteifio, who toured the area said the City Engineers Department will be instructed to assess the extent of damage of the bridge and cost of reconstruction.

Ashaiman (G/A) Two people died at Ashaiman last night during a down yesterrday while they were crossing the Gbemi stream in Ashaiman last night.

Mr Daniel L. Odai, district police commander, who confirmed this to the Ghana News agency in Ashaiman today said the stream overflowed its banks displacing people whose houses are near it.

Their bodies were retrieved early this morning and have been deposited at the Tema General hospital mortuary for post-mortem, he added.

Accra, June 13 The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) today announced that the opening of the 1997 mid-crop cocoa season started yesterday, June 12, 1997.

A Cocobod statement issued in Accra said the producer price to be paid at all buying centres is 54,000 cedis per load of 30 kilograms for grade one and two cocoa beans naked ex-scale.

The Government, yesterday increased cocoa price by 50 per cent from 1.2 million to 1.8 million cedis per tonne of 16 bags. A bag of 64 kilograms (gross) of cocoa also went up to 112,500 from 75,000 cedis.

Accra, June 13 Twenty persons who attempted to obtain British visas with fake documents have been arrested by the police, a statement from the Police Headquarters in Accra said today.

The arrests followed complaints from the British High Commission that a large number of visa applicants use fake bank statements and letters from some organisations.

Accra, June 13 The GSE All-Share Index went down 1.15 points today in brisk trading. The market indicator slipped to 385.09 points from Wednesday's close of 386.24 points.
