Former France captain Marcel Desailly says he is close to reaching a deal to succeed Milovan Rajevac as Ghana coach.

The 42-year-old former Marseille and AC Milan defender told Saturday’s edition of L’Equipe newspaper that all parties involved, “from the minister to the head of the federation,” look to be happy with his bid.

“I am available. We now have to talk money and see exactly how we can work together.

“I’m surrounded by a team that includes English speakers, because I do not want to make some errors from the past.

“The Ghana team has a very good structure".

“Here in the English-speaking countries, there are many committees who have to meet.

“We’ll see but everyone seems to agree on my candidacy.”

The Ghana federation confirmed earlier this week that Rajevac resigned, ending a two-year stint where he took Ghana to the final of the 2010 African Cup of Nations and the last eight of the World Cup in South Africa.

Desailly, who was born in Ghana, said financial details have still to be sorted out before a deal is reached.

Desailly, who won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with France, ended his playing career in 2006.
