Member of Parliament for the Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Suhuyini has called on the government to publish the list of lands that have been wrongfully allocated to individuals.

He made this during an interview on GHOne TV with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, on September 5th. According to Mr. Suhuyini, “We have demanded that the minister publishes the list of these criminally allocated leases, let us know the lands involved, the lands in question so that we can all help protect those lands.”

Mr. Suhuyini also demanded that the minister publishes the entire report of the three-member committee that investigated the allocation of state lands. “It may have been captured in the report, but we don’t have the full report,” he said. “So our second demand is that the minister must publish the entire report so that we can all appreciate the extent of looting that has taken place.”

He further cited that the government should look into and sanction the officers involved in the wrongful allocation of lands. “That is criminal. The government should be able to investigate this and punish the officers who have been involved in this,” he added.

Mr. Suhuyini stressed that the constitution vests government lands in the President of the Republic, and any allocation of state land without the president’s approval is criminal. “He is like a caretaker of state lands. Any state land that is to be allocated to a private person for whatever use has to be approved by the president,” he concluded.
