Police in the Ashanti Region have commenced a rigorous manhunt for two suspected criminals who escaped from the Tepa police cells in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region.

TV3's Benjamin Aidoo reports that the incident occurred on Monday, April 7. This comes barely few weeks after a similar one occurred at Denu in the Volta Region where seven suspects escaped.

Three of the fugitives have been recaptured in that incident.

The Ahafo Ano Divisional Police Commander , ACP Kofi Dwumfour Berchie, who confirmed the latest cell break said the prisoners managed to escape by cutting a window with a hacksaw.

The suspects are believed to have masterminded their escape by gradually piling up tools to break through the thick bars of the cells.

The escapees are 26 year old nurse Ernest Owusu Afram , who allegedly defrauded 19 people with the pretext of getting them admission at the Tepa Nursing School, and Shadrack Nyame who has been involved in several theft cases at Tepa and its environs.

Ernest Owusu Afram, who is accused of defrauding his clients to the tune of 20,000 cedis was on remand.

ACP Kofi Dwumfour Berchie assured that all personnel at barriers and borders were on the lookout for them.

He said the police administration has given personnel who were on duty ten days to provide the prisoners or face the necessary sanctions.

He also appealed to the public for assistance in its manhunt and investigations.

In February this year, a major prison break was foiled at the Kumasi Central Prisons, during which one inmate was killed in a scuffle with prison officers.
