The Swedruman Council Educational Committee has expressed concern about the poor performance of some basic schools in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), leading to some of them scoring zero per cent.

The members have urged the Ghana Education Service to do its best to reverse the situation.

Nana Esieni, Nifahene of Swedruman Council of Chiefs and Chairman of the Committee, made this known when he led members to visit some BECE examination centres in Agona West Municipality.

The centres are at Swedru Senior High School, Nyakrom Secondary/Technical, Nyakrom Siddique Senior High School and Bobikuma Methodist Primary and JHS.

The Nifahene said the Council has instituted bye-laws banning children from going out at 2000 hours and also attending funeral grounds.

He said the council has also come out with bye-laws to sanction men who impregnate school girls.

Mr Francis Obeng Ampadu, Municipal Director of Education who accompanied the chiefs, commended them for their efforts to help promote education in the area.

Mr Walter Glover, Supervisor at Swedru Senior High School BECE Centre (B) appealed to the chiefs to task the district assemblies and Ghana Education Service to provide the examination centres with health personnel to provide first aid to children who may fall sick.
