Paga (UE/R), Aug 25, GNA - The US Ambassador in Ghana, Mrs Mary Yates, at the weekend commissioned a visitors' centre in Paga where the crocodile pond is situated.

The centre was built with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the Tourist Board and the Nature Conservation Research Centre.

It has two exhibition rooms, built and decorated in traditional style with the black and white motifs of the people of the area. The Ambassador commended the people for working hard to promote Eco-tourism and urged them to continue and make the surroundings of the crocodile pond more beautiful so that tourists could relax, while watching the crocodiles.

She visited the Upper East Region to observe progress work on USAID sponsored programmes in various communities. The Paga Chief, Pe Charles Awampaga, said the area had over 10 years benefited from the services of the Peace Corps and thanked USAID for the assistance.

He said the community had plans to have easy access to good drinking water, electricity and overnight accommodation for visitors to the centre.
