Organisers of the planned three-day #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration, Democracy Hub, have said they are willing to meet the police on Friday, September 20, 2024, over their upcoming protest, but that will not in any way change the venue for the event.

The police service has scheduled a meeting with the organizers after formally communicating with the group.

According to the police service, it is expecting a fruitful engagement with Democracy Hub and would keep the public updated on the outcome of the meeting.

“The police would also give an update tomorrow, 20th September 2024, regarding the security arrangements that have so far been made towards the planned demonstration. In addition, we would share with the public some information that has been picked in connection with the exercise.

“To help guide our communication with the public in respect of this demonstration, all our updates will be numbered according to the order in which they are released,” a statement issued by the Police Service said.

But speaking on New York-based Adinkra Radio, the Operations Director for Democracy Hub, Isaac Yeboah Nyarko, said the group remains resolute and maintains its decision to hold the protest march at the Revolutionary Square opposite the Jubilee House.

"The same police service that went to court to secure an injunction against us has now turned around and is now saying that it is ready to provide security and maintain law and order during our protest march. The police told us that if we want to use the Revolutionary Square, we should go for the keys from the Chief of Defence Staff. But we told them that the place is not under lock. The police want to tie our hands at our backs, but that will not work.

"We are meeting the police tomorrow at 10 a.m. But I want to assure Ghanaians that we will not change the location of the demonstration today or tomorrow. The location for the demonstration is still the Revolutionary Square," Isaac Yeboah Nyarko emphasised.
