'Joy Tain' Commissioned

Accra, Aug. 20, - Mr Mike Hammah, Deputy Minister of Roads and Transport, today commissioned a 650 million-cedi ''Joy Train'' donated by the India government to the Efua Sutherland Children's Park in Accra. The keys for the 36-seater train assembled last year was formally handed over by Mr Diljit Singh Pannum, Indian High Commissioner in Ghana, to the deputy Minister. Mr Hammah said recreation is an essential element of child development and the ''Joy Train'' will serve as a facility for the children to make good use of their leisure hours. He commended the India government for its kind gesture, noting that over the years, Ghana has benefited from various contributions which cut across various sectors of the economy . Some of the contributions include upgrading of the eye clinic at Keta Hospital, presentation of books to support the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme and provision of Tata buses for inter and intra city passenger transport. The Deputy Minister assured the Indian government that the train would be regularly maintained by the Ghana Railway Corporation.
