Accra (Greater Accra), 24th July 99 ?

A three-day meeting of the Advisory Board of the Association of African Election Authorities (AAEA) opens in Accra on July 27 to plan upcoming projects and develop membership recruitment strategy.

A statement from the Electoral Commission (EC) in Accra on Friday said Ghana is hosting the meeting for the first time.

AAEA, which was founded in 1997, is dedicated to ensuring professional discipline in election administration.

Its members include election administrators representing 15 sub-Saharan countries as full members and six election-focussed African non-governmental organisations as associate members.

Topics to be discussed include staff exchange, training programmes, professional and development workshops and establishment of a quarterly magazine.

The Board will also formalise a membership fee structure and a protocol for collecting membership dues.

The statement said to ensure the Association's sustainability, the board will work to develop a strategy for securing funding for future projects.
