Mr Anthony Bempong, Volta Regional Director of Social Welfare, has warned parents against separation in marriage because of its adverse effects on children. He was speaking at a ceremony to mark International Day of the Family organized by the Ho district assembly and the Department of Social Welfare at Ho today. The day has been set aside by the United Nations General Assembly each year to articulate issues affecting the survival of the family. The theme for this year is "building families based on partnership". Mr Bempong called for measures to restore the unity of the family, adding that parents should inculcate in their children respect for the values of the society. Children should also lead modest lives so that they do not fall prey to hard drugs and other social vices. Madam Victoria Wordy, Principal Liaison Officer of the National Mobilization Programme, reminded parents of their responsibilities since it takes two to make a baby. She noted that violence against women is a major cause for broken homes and called on male partners to avoid beating their spouses.
