Missionary Or Mercenary?

By: Stephen A.Quaye.

Suppose Jesus Christ was to give mankind a second chance before the real judgment

day, some of us would be canned by the messiah.

Yes the messiah will scold some of us just simply because we have failed to

discharge the very duty he charged us to do when ascending to his father in heaven.

He said,”behold I am sending you like lambs into a pack of wolves” meaning he has

called us to go and spread the good news of salvation to win souls for him the

saviour no matter where and the situation we find ourselves.

But let us ask ourselves how many of us have fulfilled this mandate given to us by

the saviour that we profess to be his servants and for that matter his followers?

Many are those out there who have been blaming the chaos presently going on in the

world on a particular group of people or religious sect different from ours.

They call them names such as religious militants and mercenaries due to their

activities which of course do not seek the peace of the world.

However, the same people are failing to recognize the fact that in our own Christian

sect there are so many people who are far worse than these militants or mercenaries

they point accusing fingers at every day.

If the evil that these people whom I will described as holier than thou people were

to be made bear for all to see, you will grit your teeth in awe.

Let us pulse for some seconds and try to define who a missionary is and that of a

mercenary.

A missionary according to the Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus of Current English is

a person sent to spread religious faith whiles a mercenary is a grasping, greedy,

acquisitive, avaricious covetous and rapacious person who works merely for money and

reward.

Oh yes, there are many of them in our churches spread throughout the world who are

making the work of God very difficult and even more difficult than those religious

militants we point accusing fingers at outside the walls of Christianity.

Such people are very stubborn, they take decisions and no one else can express

different opinion, they try to interpret the word of God in a different way that can

satisfy their praise singers and they do not care about the confusion they might be

creating which makes Jesus Christ weep in heaven.

You will be shock to know that latest revelations has it that many of those who

profess to be the followers of Christ are the main persons who have been attacking

fellow Christians who stands out for the truth to ensure the total fulfillment of

spreading the gospel far and wide to win souls for God?

It is happening in our communities, work place, schools, houses, societies and

fellowships and even right in our various churches is going on whiles no one seems

to speak about it.

Therefore when I see some of these persons who are suppose to ensure that those who

have not received salvation are saved by the saviour attacking their fellow

Christians for standing out for the truth, I just laugh in my head.

Just because they are having a different tag on their chest which are not the very

ones as Christians should put on to indicate to the whole world that they are true

Christians.

What are missionaries suppose to do? Spread the gospel near and far to win souls for

Christ. Jesus himself explained this in the bible ordering every follower of him to

preach the gospel and those who will believe should be baptized in the name of the

father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit.

It is time to throw out all the attitudes that will describe us as mercenaries that

will keep us away from the work of God and have the attitude that will inspire us to

discharge our duties as missionaries.

Looking at the occurrences in the world presently, one does not need another person

to tell him that the master judge is almost here to judge us. Let us wake up as

Christians because there is no time to waste.

Be a missionary not a mercenary.

Shalom Sabbath,

Peace unto you.

End.
