I really do not think IMANI is a policy think tank rather a TERRORIST THINK TANK as they've always opposed everything to do with Kwame Nkrumah.
They opposes independence celebration in Ghana and never attend even when NPP was in Government.
So really, it does not take a Terrorist group in Ghana to have a say in AU as to what they intend to do.It's entirely the business of Pan-Africans not some kookoase group which calls itself IMANI.

AFRICANS, GENERALLY, HAVE A LOT IN COMMON. AS SUCH THE OAU/AU AIMS TO BECOME AFRICA'S CENTRAL GOVERNING BODY. THE CONTINENT ACTING FROM A CENTRAL BODY ON VARIOUS FRONTS WOULD ACHIEVE MORE FOR AFRICANS THAN THE VARIOUS COUNTRIES ACTING AS INDIVIDUALS. AFRICA DAY IS OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE THE UNITY OF AFRICANS, REVIEW WHERE WE HAVE ARRIVED WITH THE VISION AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TOWARDS ACHIEVING IT. OSAGYEFO DR KWAME NKRUMAH WAS THE GREATEST ADVOCATE OF THE OAU, AND HAD PUSHED FOR THE REALISATION OF MOST OF THE IDEAS THAT WE ARE FOLLOWING TODAY. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT GHANA CONTINUES TO CELEBRATE THE AFRICA DAY AS OFFICIAL DAY. WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE DAY WHEN THE DREAM OF A UNITED AND PROGRESSIVE AFRICA WOULD BE A REALITY.

When Kwaku Baako informed us about the atrocities of Kwesi Pratt during PNDC Regime, some of us did not believe until the truth was confirmed during the NRC. Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. Now Pratt has the guts to take Diplomatic Passport and smuggled his weak-headed children to work at the Ministries under Mills NDC, may God forgive Pratt and his dependance and spare them of the evils ahead of them...

What these IMANI imperialist road-runners dont seem to realize is that, the bulk of our total productivity earnings is surreptitiously siphoned out of the country to our neo-colonial overlords in London, Paris, Washington etc etc through direct (unfair trade mechanisms) and indirect (including badly arranged and badly monitored investment returns) to our national disadvantage.
In short, we are actually working for alien predators who have fabricated complex economic imperialist theories that make it happen so. What is happening today is no different from what used to happen during the colonial period. The only difference is that they are exploiting us more and ripping-us off even worse through the intermediary of corrupt politicians, govts and presumed 'civil society' organizations like IMANI.
People like those impetuous young men of IMANI are just like parrots who just replay and promote those debilitating economic theories of our historical oppressors. Of course they dont know any better because they are incurable victims of an imperialist education process.
Why is it that in spite of all our mineral resources and all the hard work that Ghanaian workers have been putting in with very little remuneration over the past 50 odd years, we still do not see any meaningful development that can be compared to even what Dr Nkrumah achieved in just nine years?
Much as I myself I do not agree with the carrying-over of event days from weekends to weekdays, I think the AU Day is significant as a legitimate and pertinent wake up call to all of us Africans, for its inherent benefits of at least stimulating and debriefing Africans from cheaply surrendering our ourselves and our resources at complimentary or dirt-cheap prices to the evil forces of unsympathetic imperialists.
It must be well-noted that for over 500 years years, these evil predators stamped their absolute authoritarian scams on African society and when eventually they left, they left behind their educational, political and administrative systems/institutions that ensured that we remain loyal and subservient to them - only so that they can continue to rip us off.
IMANI, by their bold capitalist posture, effusions and pretensions, cannot pretend that they do not support imperialism and the inhuman exploitation of the human and material resources of Africa.

Well said Ato! The former UN boss, Kofi Annan said last week that western countries in collaborations with African leaders are stealing from Africans by underpaying for raw materials and minerals resources through bribery and other scandalous means.
The AU raised a very important topic at this year meeting about WAR CRIMES prosecution which is predominately Africans leaders and politicians, 99% they say, yet there are all kinds of troubles/crimes in the Middle East, China, India etc and no one face The Hague court. How's that possible? All the people killed in Israel, Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, Iran, North Korean, Burma, etc and no one gets prosecuted as war crimes, yet we willingly give out our leaders to be imprisoned in foreign countries for crimes all other countries commit and go scot-free
The Brazilian president forgave Africans loans worth $900 million which dates back to the 1970s because they think they can make more money from Africans by forgiving them. In fact, the president, Lima, cited the 26.5% increase in trades amount to about $11 billion from the past two years of about 6 billion. Everyone rape the supposed poor Africans for their own enrichment

These separatist, nation wreckers and antagonist have nothing good in mind for Ghana and Africa. See, the OAU now AU was the brain child of Kwame Nkrumah. So we are not only celebrating Africa but indeed the protagonist ideas of the greatest son of Africa. Although there is a lot to do that will not stop us from the jubilee celebrations. These Mate Mehu NPP were boycotters of Ghana's independence today they celebrate it. They can choose to boycott AU day that is their cup of tea.
We know Mate Mehu NPP to be perennial boycotters, bomb throwers and instigators of riots. If other African states do not celebrate AU day, it does not mean that Ghana the vanguard and vehicle of AU should also do the same. What sort of efom logic is this? And what sort of message does it send across? Sorry to say this but I wonder how these bush rats came to occupy such positions and start making noise before they think. No wonder most of them have no horizon and if any it does not extend beyond their flat noses. These Mate Mehu NPP idiots should give us a break!

This holiday is not even being observed in Ethiopia where the meeting is taking place and where the first OAU meeting was held under the auspices of Emperor HAILE SALLASIE. My checks have shown that Ghana stands alone on this one and we cannot be more African than any of the others. This can only be an act of a clueless goverment. We are either glued to our television sets watching non value added election court cases, or making endless noises on radio and television when fire keeps on burning market after market and electricity station after e;lectricity station. Obvoiusly the noises are not followed with preemtive action so the mishap repeats itself elsewhere. We have to be seriuos as a nation, and relax when we have achieved some sustainable growth. No African country worth its name is on holiday today so why GHANA? I mean Nigeria, Senegal, Cote Ivoire, Cameroun, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa. Check the statistics usually after the above are mentioned the rest are grouped together as OTHER AFRICA. yOU may visit to better appreciate teh classification. Those are the countries where the president can make his birthday a holiday because productivity does not matter as cash is always available for the politicians to STEAL!!Definately Ghana is not being properly managed, but it can be addressed by the same government through regular reviews and better forward planning!!!

This AU holiday is not taking place in Senegal,Cote Ivoire, Nigeria,Cameroun, Kenya, Ethiopia,South Africa OR any other African country worth mentioning??We definately are not more African than any of the others . We may rather be joining the league of lazy African countries?? Especially in these days when productivity is also suffereing due to election court cases , market and electricity station fires!!somebody has to redirect this nation. Cash will always be available for the politicians to steal so i dont expect any of them to appreciate this discussion!! we as citizens should reshape the thinking of our politicians else they will lead us all to absolute poverty with only they standing tall!!!

It is high time we sit down and compute revenue lost from the useless holidays. Another one is Farmers' Day. The farmers themselves go to their farms and we workers stay at home. What an irony!!

He ignorantly compare Ghana to Nigeria in this regard. Where was Nigerias independence when Ghana had hers? Who told him Nigeria would not one day declear the day a holiday? It should not always be about businesses. What about our children who needs to know the essence of African unity, nationalism, patriotism and pan Africanism? We need that to develope economically as well if he does not know. This day intends to instill in them that importance and hope as activities are held and they having time to reflect on it with friends, families and their brothers and sisters in other African countries. Nkrumah's efforts should not be in vain.
Cudjoe should shut up, for he knows not what he is talking about.

Strange; isn't it that Franklin Cudjoe is talking about holidays effect on productivity. Isn't his organisation - the so-called IMANI Ghana - which backed the recent wave of strikes in the country. YES IT'S TRUE.ANY SERIOUS THINKING GHANAIAN IN HIS RIGHT SENS WILL AGREE THAT WEGHANAIANS OBSERVE SO MANY UNECESSARY HOLIDAYS.
JUST COME TO THINK OF IT,IN THE WESTERN COUNTRIES AND ALMOST ALL THE DEVELOPED COUNTRIES WHERE ALL OUR GOVERNMENTS GO AND BEG FOR AID, GRANTS AND DONATIONS,NON OF THEM ROLL OVER ANY HOLIDAY WHATSOEVER WHEN IT FALLS ON A WEEKEND.FOR WHAT REASON ON EARTH SHOULD WE OBSERVE A WORKING DAY AS A HOLIDAY WHEN ALREADY THE EVENT HAS PASSED.
IT IS REALLY NOT ONLY UNPRODUCTIVE BUT ALSO COUNTER PRODUCTIVE IN THE PUBLIC AND GOVERNMENT SECTORS.THE SIMPLE REASON IS THAT OUR LEADERS AND GOVERNMENTS BOTH PAST AND PRESENT DOESN'T HAVE THE WELFARE OF OUR PEOPLE AND ECONOMY AT HEART.THEY DON'T HAVE ANY VISION WHATSOEVER,THEY ALWAYS MISPLACE OUR PRIORITIES AND HAVE LOST THEIR FOCUS AND ORIENTATION.
AM NOT SAYING THAT WE SHOULD DO AS OTHER COUNTRIES DOES BUT ALL THAT AM SAYING IS THAT WE SHOULD MAKE THE BEST USE OF OUR CALENDER YEAR TO PROMOTE PRODUCTIVITY AND ECONOMIC GROWTH.
I'LL SUGGEST THAT WORKERS ARE PAID WAGES AND NOT SALARIESINCLUDING EVEN OUR GOD FOR NOTHING PARLIAMENTARIANS SOME OF WHOM FOR A WHOLE SESSION MAY APPEASR ONLY 4 OR 5 TIMES IN PARLIAMENT.ALREADY MOST OF OUR NATIONAL WORKERS ONLY MAKE THEIR PRESENCE AT THE WORKPLACE AND THEN VANISH.WE HAVE ALL SORTS OF HOLIDAYS BUT WHERE HAS IT LEAD AFTER ALMOST 60 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE? NO FUEL,NO ENERGY,NO WATER,NO DOCTORS AND NURSES,NO HOSPITALS,CHILDREN STILL SCHOOL UNDER TREES,NO GOOD ROADS NO RAILWAYS,NO SAILING SHIPS,NO AIRLINES,AND THE LIST GOES ON AND YET WE ARE PROUD TO CELEBRATE WHATEVER IS CELEBRATABLE.
I'LL SUGGEST RHAT ALL THESE UN NECESSARY HOLIDAYS SHOULD BE SCRAPED OFF. THE ONLY HOLIDAYS WE SHOULD OBSERVE ARE THE INDEPENDENCE,REPUBLIC DAY AND MAYDAY.IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN,ON CHRISTMASDAY STAY AT HOME WITHOUT PAY BECAUSE YOU ARE ON WAGES AND NOT SALARY,BUT LET MUSLIMS AND NON CHRISTIANS GO TO WORK AND VICE VERSA.

Underdeveloped countries never know the importance it generates, apart from it human resource package.
If you live in any developed country, you will understand. It is a day made to boost the tourism sector because people take up holidays in resort centres.
Again, it creates sales for shops as people have more time to visit shoping malls unlike saturdays and sundays.
In my earlier comment, pI said many people like this Cudjoe in Gh just talk straight from their bellies. They don't look at the better side of things and correct the negatives to positives.
One thing I have noticed with holidays in Gh is that it can fall on any day, which makes it unproductive in the day before or after the holiday itself. In UK all holidays are set on mondays, except christmas, boxing, new year and easter days which is very symbolic to be celebrated on specific dates or days.
In Gh, when holidays fall on wednesday, tuesday at work people don't really work. Thursdays, people don't many cases don't come to work. Making 3 days in most cases unproductive. If we could make some of these holidays to fall on Friday or monday is better for Gh. Friday would be ideal because of our moslem friday prayers.
Holidays hv to work to redistributing incomes to certain sectors.

Ghanaians are relatively very lazy. A teacher goes to work at 9:00 am and finishes work at 12:00 noon and that's it. Other workers in the public sector work 4 hrs a day maximum but nobody says anything. Even if you go to the Supreme court, there are 7 days in a week with 24hrs each. Out of the seven days, they don't go to work on Fridays, they spend 5 hrs maximum a day. Even some days, they spend 2 hrs only. On top of it, they have agreed not to work on holidays. Why is Ghana so lazy? In Ghana, when it rains, no one goes to work. Even when the wind blows, they don't go to work. Compared to the western world, there is a compulsion minimum 8 hrs a day for the entire 7 days making a minimum of 40hr a week. Even on Sundays, people go to work but it is the direct opposite in Ghana. All I'm saying is, Ghana is very very lazy and a stop must be put to it now. If you go to someone's office, the person is never there. They don't go to work. Ghana is lazy and it hurts so much to see people killing young palm wine trees in the name of tapping.

I am not sure how many holidays we have in Ghana but holidays like Boxing day where there is no boxing, Farmers day, too many Moslem and Christian holidays, Republic day, Founders day and many others should be scrapped. In US even Good Friday is a normal working day, but Ghana loves keeping his workers at home unnecessary. I personally believe that franklin Cudjoe is totally wrong by saying that the celebration of the OAU/Au day as holiday is not relevant.
Which productivity is he talking about? Doesn't he know that no development is possible if people are mentally, politically, economically and culturally are not free? He wants productivity for his western masters.
It is not acceptable that a genuine Ghanaian thinks that way as if he is undermining the struggle of Ghana and President Kwame Nkruma for the liberation of the whole Africa.
Ghana is a sovereign country which did a lot and paid a great price for Africa to become independent. Our lovely President Kwame Nkrumah is the only African black intellectual who first brought the idea of pan africanism and put it in practice. He has been overthrown for having done so much for the whole Africa even though his enemies are accusing him of being dictator and selfish.
Remember he survived 7 assassination attempts just because he paved the way for the emancipation of the African people.
This young Franklin is an immature person and we should teach him that there is nothing that could compensate the sacrifices of President Kwame Nkruma and his comrades who freed Africa from brutality, exploitation, slavery and other forms of dehumanization of the black man.
We are very proud of President Kwame Nkruma and his struggle for the safeguard of the continent's interests. We are proud of Ghana and their leadership in all domains.
We are praying that the Supreme Court of Ghana does not take any action that will pave the way for unnecessary disputes over elections in Africa as regard the current hearing on the election petitions. those who want to get into power were the traitors and collaborators of the colonizers.

Nigeria is too close my brother Cudjo . Japan, the country that our president is coming sometime next month with cup in his hand to borrow money are not observing UN day yesterday. Do our leaders and Ghanaians in general think at all how this folks in Japan and other western countries come by their money for us to come and borrow from them? Do we know how much Ghana is losing anytime there is holiday? The question of the ROLLOVER doesn't make any sense at all. It clearly shows how empty-minded we are, lazy, lackadaisical attitude we have towards work.
