Petitioners in the election results challenge are wrapping up their cross-examination of Electoral Commission Chairman Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan today, Tuesday July 16, 2013.

The Petitioners’ Lead Counsel, Philip Addison, told the court on Monday that “hopefully we’ll wrap up” Tuesday.

Mr. Addison has been quizzing Dr. Afari-Gyan over his evidence in chief as well as the role the EC played in denying main opposition Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo victory in the 2012 presidential poll.

Dr. Afari-Gyan will be re-examined by the EC’s lead Counsel James Quashie-Idun once the petitioners are done.

Nana Akufo-Addo, together with his 2012 running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and NPP National Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, is challenging the results on grounds that there were statutory violations, irregularities and malpractices in the conduct of the election.

President Mahama, the EC and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) are the respondents in the case, in that order. The case has already seen witnesses in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; National Democratic Congress General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia; international audit firm KPMG represented by Nii Amanor Dodoo and Dr. Afari-Gyan while documents, including polling station results sheets, otherwise called pink sheets, voters registers, letters, and audio recordings have all been tendered in evidence before the court.
