A whale has been washed ashore the beach at Kokrobite in the Ga South Municipality of Accra.

Residents say the whale was washed ashore Sunday night, making it the second sea mammal found in similar situation after mysterious sea creature was spotted along the Asanta Beach in the Jomoro District of the Western Region earlier that day.

Joy News Fred Smith reported that the "black and white" whale is as big as "ten human beings joined" in length and twice that number in breadth. A strong stench is also emanating from the decomposing sea creature, he reported.

It is unclear what may have caused the mammals to be washed ashore but residents, who are mostly fishermen, say that sends some "positive" signal to them this year.

They were in jubilant mood because they are sure of experiencing bumper harvest as has been the case any time incidents occur.

Chief Fisherman Nii Asase Ayitey told Myjoyonline.com's David Andoh that they count themselves fortunate to have been blessed. Nii Ayitey said they have initiated moves to build a shrine to keep the carcass.

Meanwhile, traditional priests in the area have slaughtered fouls to perform spiritual rites at the site where the mammal lay.

No official from the authorised state agencies was spotted at the scene but the local people have begun looking for means to transport the carcass to a secured location.
